Google's Nexus One Barcode: what for?

This tuesday, 5th of January 2010, Google is going to officially announce the launch of its first mobile device: the Nexus One.

This is a big step in Google's history, because putting aside datacenters, Big G has never commercialized hardware products.

But we all know Google and frankly I can hardly imagine that the N1 will be the only one announcement.

Lots of rumours about an Apple iSlate rival came up few days ago.

But the other point coming to my mind is that curious barcode on the N1's back.


I've heard several rumours, saying a Neomedia's app is pre-loaded in the phone, also that was a barcode redirecting into a single landing page.

Actually I just don't know what this barcode is made for but, but if each device has its own barcode, we can figure out that Google has a huge potential to create a new interface with mobile phones.

Here are the two killer apps I thought about:

1- Barcode redirecting to an improved GSpace, a new way to achieve transfert files between cellphones. A kind of USB drive killer. Just imagine how sending pics to a mate could be easy?

2- Barcode linked to your Google Checkout's account.
Google can then create a new way to transfert money through mobile phones.
Merchant could also scan your barcode to finalize transactions.

So Google has a unique opportunity, thanks to its great web services, to create a new ecosystem and to revolutionnize the interface mobile-human.

In any case if Google is looking for someone to develop these ideas I'm right over here ;-)
